Another fine product of Crewe's stirling youth academy, Gareth Whalley made 341 appearences for the Railwaymen and bagged 14 goals in the process. He was an instumental part of Crewe's promotion to Division 1 back in 1997. In 1998 he was sold to Bradford City for 600,000 and spent another four years there before coming back on loan to Crewe in 2002 for seven games towards the end of the season. After being released by Bradford he joined Cardiff, then Wigan, then Swindon and has recently moved down the leagues and joined Altrincham Town.
