Danny O'Donnell first arrived on a season long loan from Liverpool in August 2006. It took him a while to find his feet but by the end of the 06/07 season he had firmly established himself in the centre of defence alongside Julien Baudet.
In the summer of 2007 new manager Steve Holland took the opportunity to sign O'Donnell on a permanent deal from Liverpool for a fee of £100,000.
The 07/08 season saw O'Donnell, Baudet and Chris McCready all fight it out for the two central defence spots with O'Donnell making 27 appearances, including 19 starts.
He scored his second Alex goal that season, a decisive last minute winner in a 4-3 win over Tranmere Rovers at Gresty Road on New Years Day 2008.
The 2008/09 season proved to be an up and down one for O'Donnell. Almost ever present in the team till Christmas the arrival of Gudjon Thordarson saw the ice man favour loanees Dennis Lawrence and Marlon Broomes over the Liverpudlian.
He managed 27 starts for the Alex with two goals, his last being another winning goal - this time against Scunthorpe United in a 3-2 win against the promotion winners.
With his contract ending at the end of the 09-10 season, a poor season from O'Donnell in League Two sealed his fate as the club decided to release the Liverpudlian in May 2010.
