Nicky Maynard made his first team debut on the last day of the 2005-2006 in a 4-2 win over Millwall. Maynard came on in the second half to score with his first touch in professional football.
Maynard was always a regular scorer at youth level but not many knew what to expect as the new 2006/2007 season approached. In fact, Nicky didn't even make the first few squads of the new season.
However, a Carling Cup game at Grimsby saw the birth of a fantastic partnership between Nicky and Luke Varney. Nicky's ability to always be there at the right time saw him score a brilliant 19 goals in just 30 appearances.
During the season fans also saw Maynard's all round play improve and go from a goal hanger to being a superb asset who plays as much a part in setting up goals as he does in scoring them.
Nicky will be looking to improve on last season's goal tally, and hopefully not have any long term injuries in his quest to make it to the very top of the game.
Strengths: Finishing, pace, vision.
Weaknesses: Sometimes goes missing in games. Not often though.
