Vaughany broke into the first team way back in 01/02, a season after making his debut at home to Blackburn. From the off Vaughan received the plaudits with his mazy runs and ability to play either in defence or in midfield.

Vaughan's reputation grew season by season and in 04/05 he was linked with moves to the Premiership, with Blackburn being said to be interested.

However, since the speculation Vaughan has failed to continue to progress. 05-06 and 06-07 were two frustrating seasons for fans of Vaughan as he failed to shine. His end product seems to be his main weakness as he regularly gets into a good position only to chicken out and give the ball away.

Six days into the 2007/2008 season, on August 17th 2007, Crewe received and accepted a 300,000 bid from Real Sociedad, a Spanish Division Two club. Vaughan agreed terms with them the following day and left Crewe Alexandra after six years as a professional.
