Signed in summer 2007 Schumacher became one of Steve Holland's first signings as manager.

Schumacher arrived on a free transfer from Bradford City where he had spent three years, making over 100 appearances, having originally been part of the successful Everton Youth side that included Wayne Rooney.

His debut came on the opening day of the 2007-2008 season in a 2-1 win over Brighton with his first goal coming just a couple of weeks later, a spectacular volley from a 50 yard pass by Gary Roberts. It was a goal that went on to win goal of the season at the club.

He made just 28 appearances for the rest of the season which was blighted by injuries, a familiar story for Schuey.

In 2008-2009 injuries again forced Schumacher to miss much of the season as he made just 18 appearances and only 8 first team starts. He did however add a further three goals to his tally.

Injuries hit again in 2009-2010 causing a stop start season and managed only 27 starts all season.

This was unfortunately his down fall as the club decided not to renew his contract which expired in June 2010.
