Grant became the club's 2nd signing of summer 2008 in a surprise 130,000 move from Aldershot Town.

Part of Steve Holland's infamous 800,000 shopping spree there were high hopes for the nippy winger when he made his debut in August 2008.

Unfortunately it wasn't to be a great start to his Alex career. Grant struggled to adjust to life League One and despite making 23 starts in 08-09 in a Crewe shirt his performances left much to be desired.

Relegation to League Two provided Grant the chance to find his feet again. He became an almost consistent feature and added goals to his game, notching up eight by mid-March.

In 2010 Dario claimed that Joel Grant is one player who could eventually play in the Championship should he realise his potential.
