Crewe recover for victory
Sat 30th Apr 3.00pm
Crewe Alexandra came from behind for a first win in sixteen games and to drag Doncaster Rovers down into League Two with them for next season.
Kick-off was delayed by half-an-hour due to a waterlogged playing surface and Tommy Rowe gave the visitors the lead through a deflected strike.
However, youngster Callum Ainley equalised with his first senior goal before the break and Marcus Haber and substitute Brad Inman added second-half efforts.
Callum Saunders shot wide early on for the hosts but they were to fall behind through Rowe's deflected effort close to the half-hour.
There were further opportunities for both Andy Williams and James Coppinger before Cedric Evina's missed clearance allowed Ainley to finish at close-range a couple of minutes from the break.
Striker Nathan Tyson saw an attempt ruled out for offside and Rovers keeper Remi Matthews blocked from Marcus Haber at the other end.
However, the Canadian forward half-volleyed into the far corner to earn his side the lead twelve minutes into the second period.
Both substitute Liam Mandeville and Williams then wasted openings for the visitors and Alex's top scorer Inman made them pay with a firm low finish just before the end.
