Alex's unbeaten run ends
Sat 20th Feb 3.00pm
Crewe Alexandra's recent unbeaten six-game run came to an end with a 3-1 defeat at fellow strugglers Chesterfield.
The Railwaymen suffered another really bad start with Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Lee Novak both on target within the opening twelve minutes.
However, Zoumana Bakayogo replied prior to the break before Connor Dimaio restored the two-goal advantage with the hour-mark fast approaching.
Home striker Ebanks-Blake struck an effort in off an upright only seven minutes in and Gboly Ariyibi soon set up Novak for a close-range second. Alex's Marcus Haber had already forced a sharp save from Tommy Lee.
The visitors responded with Callum Saunders shooting wide before Inman supplied Bakayogo to reduce the deficit after himself being kept out by Lee.
But the Spireites effectively secured the points eleven minutes after the break as Dimaio exchanged passes with Ebanks-Blake and fired across goalkeeper Ben Garratt.
Ollie Turton and Inman were both too high in reply, while Haber and Turton were denied by keeper Lee before the Canadian striker also headed wide.
Their victory moved the hosts six points above their latest opponents in the table as they slipped back a place.
