Rapid brace boosts the Alex
Sat 7th Mar 3.00pm
Two quick-fire second-half goals earned Crewe Alexandra an important 2-0 victory over fellow strugglers Scunthorpe United at Gresty Road.
On loan Manchester City wing-back Greg Leigh broke the deadlock with a fierce effort shortly after the break.
And moments later Marcus Haber added a second to move the Railwaymen level with their latest opponents in the table - and seven points above the relegation zone.
The visitors enjoyed enough first-half possession with Paddy Madden failing to get onto Liam O'Neill's inviting cross towards the far post.
Anthony Grant then went close with a low shot for the hosts before setting up on loan Nicky Ajose to poke wide.
Crewe youngster James Jones was denied by Iron keeper Luke Daniels after the break before Leigh crashed a glorious 54th minute opener past him.
And it instantly got even better for the Alex as Haber headed in a precise cross by Jones, who himself went close to another when curling narrowly over.
