Honours even in tense battle
Mon 21st Apr 3.00pm
Both Crewe Alexandra and Colchester United remain just the right side of the relegation line following their tense scoreless draw at Gresty Road.
Freddie Sears went closest to settling the contest in the visitors' favour when his shot came back off a post during the second-half.
The Railwaymen were unchanged from their latest win at Shrewsbury Town but it was Jabo Ibehre sending an effort wide on the end of a purposeful break. Colchester keeper Sam Walker then fended away Liam Nolan's 25-yard attempt before Uche Ikpeazu lifted over.
On loan Ikpeazu soon despatched another shot at Walker while Ibehre and Sanchez Watt were both wide in reply and Gavin Massey struck too close to Ben Garratt.
The visitors continued to appear strong and Ibehre and Sears tried further attempts, while home winger Byron Moore drove at Walker following the restart.
But a slip by Nolan then witnessed Ibehre setting-up Sears to flash a shot against an upright. Garratt also blocked from Ibehre.
Moore later crossed for Ikpeazu to be unable to direct his header on target before then calling Walker into action at the foot of his post as the deadlock continued.
