Crewe suffer costly defeat
Tue 25th Mar 7.45pm
Crewe Alexandra fell to another home defeat as Ronan Murray scored two late goals for bottom club Notts County in a 3-1 victory at Gresty Road.
Gary Liddle had earlier earned the visitors a tenth-minute lead with only a Mark Ellis consolation in injury-time following Murray's brace.
County set about completing a league double over their hosts by taking the lead when Jamal Campbell-Ryce collected a partial clearance and crossed for Liddle to head home.
Jimmy Spencer went close to another as he curled narrowly wide while Ellis blocked from Jack Grealish. Alex weren't offering much in return, although leading scorer Chuks Aneke was wide from a Matt Tootle cross before the break.
On loan striker Uche Ikpeazu headed another Tootle delivery over upon the restart while Ben Garratt had to deny Campbell-Ryce before Alan Sheehan whipped in a dangerous cross.
Mathias Pogba failed to seriously threaten with a headed reply but County goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski was forced to turn over a 25-yard effort from skipper Abdul Osman before Ellis headed the corner wide.
The Magpies doubled their lead with eleven minutes remaining as Campbell-Ryce broke clear for Murray to move inside and finish past Garratt.
They soon added another when Murray claimed his second after running clear before Garratt thwarted his hat-trick and then kept out substitute Nathan Tyson.
Ellis did manage to pull one back when turning onto a George Evans free-kick and firing home but that was hardly any consolation.
