Crewe face cup replay

Crewe Alexandra must replay following a 1-1 draw at League Two Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Cup first round.

Midfielder Anthony Grant gave the visitors a fourth-minute lead with a superb strike into the top corner. But Paris Cowan-Hall headed an equaliser eight minutes before the break.

The injury-hit visitors were unchanged from last week and Chuks Aneke nodded wide from an early cross by Byron Moore, who then delivered for Grant to finish superbly against his former club.

Wycombe tried an immediate response and Harry Davis covered well to frustrate Cowan-Hall before Billy Knott was wayward and former Crewe loanee Dean Morgan curled over.

Chairboys skipper Matthew Spring had opened the scoring when the two sides met in the same competition last season, and soon dragged wide while Aneke couldn't find the target in reply after Max Clayton was blocked.

On loan midfielder Aneke then released Vadaine Oliver but Matt Ingram saved and Clayton failed to take advantage of the rebound.

The hosts drew level when Sam Wood delivered for Cowan-Hall to head past Alan Martin with eight minutes of the opening half still remaining.

Alex goalscorer Grant was wide from distance before the break and visiting keeper Martin denied Morgan after it, while Clayton headed a Moore cross at Ingram in reply.

Crewe keeper Martin had to be alert as Morgan was again the threat from a free-kick. He also thwarted substitute Max Kretzschmar - on for goalscorer Cowan-Hall at the break.

Back at the other end, Alex's own replacement Brad Inman could only find the clutches of Ingram before Matt McClure was wide in return.

Inman was then sent free by Moore in the final minute but lifted over as the two sides were forced to settle for a replay on Tuesday week.
