There were more problems for Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis as his side slipped into the relegation zone following a 4-0 defeat at fellow strugglers Notts County.

On loan Celtic forward Callum McGregor made it three goals in two games for the hosts with a brace ahead of the interval and Danny Haynes and Marcus Haber later added to it.

Davis had earlier made four changes with recalls for Anthony Grant, Vadaine Oliver, Matt Tootle and Adam Dugdale after returning from his loan spell from Tranmere Rovers. And Dugdale was soon wide following Byron Moore delivering a free-kick while a headed reply from Joss Labadie also narrowly missed.

Home keeper Bartosz Bialkowski was though in action from one of a couple of long-range efforts from Max Clayton, who then volleyed over from Oliver's assist. But it was the home side going in front just after the half-hour with McGregor drilling low into the corner.

That produced attempts from both Moore and Clayton as the visitors tried to reply, until Mustapha Dumbuya set up McGregor to add his second four minutes before the break.

McGregor had a chance to complete his hat-trick following the interval but shot wide of the mark. Greg Tempest did likewise from a free-kick while at the other end Oliver saw his effort deflected away and Mark Ellis headed over a Tootle cross.

The Magpies then forced the contest out of reach midway through the second period when goalkeeper Steve Phillips could only fend away a Tempest cross and Haynes finished from close-range.

And worse was to follow with seven minutes remaining as on loan Canadian forward Haber headed in number four to complete another disappointing afternoon for the visitors.
