Late equaliser foils Crewe
Sat 7th Sep 3.00pm
Crewe Alexandra scored twice during seven first-half minutes but were eventually denied by an injury-time equaliser from Peterborough United at Gresty Road.
Striker Vadaine Oliver claimed his first goal since arriving from Lincoln City in the summer and AJ Leitch-Smith soon added another.
But Tyrone Barnett replied on the stroke of the interval and Michael Bostwick headed a dramatic equaliser right at the end of the contest.
Grant McCann was the first to curl an effort wide in a bright start for the visitors while Lee Tomlin was similarly off-target.
However, on fifteen minutes the Alex took the lead against the run of play, Brad Inman progressing well down the right and delivering for Oliver to slide home.
His side received an immediate warning with Barnett heading against an upright before extending their advantage when full debutant Lee Molyneux supplied long for Leitch-Smith to finish.
Goalkeeper Steve Phillips intercepted Tomlin's free-kick at the other end before McCann blazed another opportunity over.
But Posh still reduced the deficit right on the interval when Mark Ellis' weak clearance found Mark Little's shot blocked by Phillips and Barnett followed up to score.
Goalscorer Barnett forced a fine stop from Phillips following the break while Molyneux called opposite keeper Bobby Olejnik into action from a free-kick.
Tomlin should really have later levelled for the visitors but lacked composure inside the area before then seeing another effort thwarted by Phillips.
The recent Celtic target did though deliver the subsequent corner for Bostwick to head an injury-time equaliser and salvage a dramatic point.
