Tranmere have started the season well and currently are in 2nd position and will provide a stern test for Crewe.

Ref Watch:

Scott Mathieson takes charge tomorrow night when the Alex travel to Cheshire rivals Tranmere Rovers.

Mathieson, from Stockport, began refereeing in the Cheshire area prior to his promotion to the Football League Assistants list in 1990. It took four years before he was promoted to the national list of referees.

In his 13 years as a league referee, Mathieson has refereed up to Championship standard and was fourth official at the 2000/2001 League Cup final.

The last Crewe game he took charge of was over five years ago. The painful last day of the 01/02 season at home to Rotherham, where we needed to over come a 10 goal goal difference deficit to avoid relegation. That day he booked just the one Crewe player, Efe Sodje.

The last Tranmere game he refereed was in 2005, a 0-0 draw at home to Colchester.

So far this season Mathieson has dished out 8 yellow cards in 6 matches, without showing red.

Tomorrow he will be assisted by R C Green and R L Metcalfe and the fourth official will be M A Astley.
