By crewe4life After watching his side go out the F.A.Cup to an 86th minute Zak Whitbread winner on Tuesday, Gudjon Thordason will be looking from a response as he takes charge of the alex in the league for the first time against Scunthorpe at Gresty Road on Saturday. Crewe will be looking for 3 much needed points, but in promotion chasing Scunthorpe, it won`t be an easy task. Thordarson will be hoping the reds cut out the defensive errors that cost them a trip to Hull and show some fight as they aim to climb of the basement of League One.
'A game lasts 90 plus minutes and we cannot afford to have spectators out on the pitch. If the players want to watch and not participate when we don't have the ball then they might as well go and sit in the stands with the fans.
'We need everyone working hard for the team. We cannot afford to carry any passengers. Not one.'
The main team news all Alex fans will be looking for will be who is in goal after the recent calamities from Stuart Tomlinson and Steve Collis. If you believe the message boards then there could well be a loan keeper in, but there should be a loan player in some form, according to one of Thordason`s press conferences this week. Tom Pope and Calvin Zola will be looking to add some needed presence up front after scoring for the reserves in mid week against Wrexham. Like Zola, Mark Carrington also got a brace in that win and after a poor display by James Bailey against Millwall, he too could force himself into the starting line up.
Crewe fans will be looking for another display from youngster Luke Murphy who sealed his home debut with a wonder goal to open the scoring against Millwall. Another player who impressed that night was John Brayford who put in a man of the match performance and he will be looking to carry on his good current form.
Iron manager Nigel Adkins has a virtually fit squad for the trip, with the only absentee Ben May who is out with ankle ligaments sustained against Yeovil. They are also without defender Kenny Milne who has been out for 5 months, but skipper Cliff Bryne is back from suspension, however Terry Silverton is suspended.
For Scunthorpe the main danger man will be 13 goal man Gary Hooper who is no stranger to finding the net against the Alex.
Crewe Wins - 17
Draws - 25
Scunthorpe Wins - 24
Sat 24th - Northampton (A) - 15:00
