'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Statistics, Statistics

Crewe`s season is on a downward spiral so I thought I would pull together some League One statistics for you to ponder over:

Crewe currently sit bottom of the League One shooting rankings with 114 shots on target and 103 off target, hitting the woodwork nine times. In comparison, Bournemouth who sit two places below us in the League One table are second on the list with 203 shots on target and 153 off. Nottingham Forest who sit second in the League One table have the fifth worst shooting ratio with 133 on target and 132 off.

The Alex also sit bottom of the discipline table with the best disciplinary record in the league so far this season. Crewe have accumulated 16 yellow cards and 1 red, having committed only 209 fouls. We have also been awarded 5 penalties this season, the joint most sharing with two other teams. In comparison to our 209 fouls, the next nearest is Bristol Rovers and Doncaster who have both committed 275 fouls respectively.

Top of the list with the worst disciplinary record is Southend who have committed 358 fouls and accumulated 55 yellow cards and 6 red; they currently sit in ninth position in the League One table.

In comparison to Crewe`s 16 yellow cards, the next nearest in the league is over double that figure with both Forest and Cheltenham having being awarded 33 yellow cards each.

In the league this season Crewe sit fifth in the table for the amount of players used with 33 different players representing the club. In comparison the top two in the league Swansea and Nottingham Forest sit respectively second and third bottom of this ranking with Swansea having used 22 players and Forest 23. Leyton Orient have used the least with 21 and Millwall the most with 37.

Three of the bottom four League One clubs head the list with Millwall top having used 37, Port Vale second having used 35 players and Bournemouth third having also used 35 players.

These are only basic seasonal statistics so far, but in comparison with other teams it`s interesting to see in our current plight how we compare with some of the other teams in the league.

Interesting stats there. From your hard work, I can only glean that at Forest, we clearly prefer to walk the ball over the line, rather than shoot. Such is the way of our tippy tappy style, of purist football. But Christ, it don't hurt to take a pot shot sometimes, does it?
