Enquiries Draw A Blank
Steve Holland has revealed that enquiries for two strikers, thought to be Tottenham Hotspur's Tomas Pekhart and Andrew Barcham, have drawn a blank.
The strike force has been a problem for Crewe this season since Luke Varney's departure and Nicky Maynard's leg break.
Lee Barnard's 6 month loan has helped cover the gap but the management feel that Barney needs a strike partner to play off.
On Tuesday night Dario made the trip to see Tottenham reserves vs Arsenal reserves, with Tomas Pekhart and Andrew Barcham of Tottenham in mind.
Pekhart is a 6ft 3in Czech U-20 international, and is rated as one of the best youngsters in Tottenham's ranks at the moment. However, Tottenham refused permission to loan him. Tottenham also rejected a bid for Andrew Barcham, a small pacey striker-cum-winger, but said he could be available next week.
Steve Holland told crewealex.net: 'We have made two enquiries this week. Dario made a long trip on Tuesday night looking at two potential targets, and I made a phone call to a sporting director enquiring about one of those.
'He was a big striker who we were very excited about, we felt he would solve the problem. We weren't able to get him, I asked about another player who has some pace, is an attacking player and can play wide or through the middle.
'We were told that the player would be required for the next week or so, but the situation might change then. The search continues.'
