Goals from Spanish International Xabi Alonso and Crewe loan target Ray Putterill gave Liverpool reserves a 2-1 win over Crewe reserves in a friendly today at Liverpool's Melwood training ground.
A strong Liverpool side was fielded, as Rafa Benitez watched over the likes of Sissoko, Alonso and Jermaine Pennant.
It was goals either side of half time that won the game for Liverpool. The first came 10 minutes before half time when Jermaine Pennant was brought down in the penalty area, Xabi Alonso slotted the resulting penalty past Stu Tomlinson.
The Alex got themselves back into the match in the second half when rookie Luke Danville converted a low cross into the box to make it 1-1 on 59 minutes. However, the lead only lasted six minutes. Crewe loan target Ray Putterill was on hand to volley home a cross at the far post to give Liverpool the friendly win.
Crewe's team featured a fair few first team players: Stuart Tomlinson, Luke Danville, Chris McCready, Mat Bailey, Ryan Lynch, Ben Rix, Colin Daniel, Yannick Salem, Mark Carrington, Tom Pope, Byron Moore, Nick Farquharson, Junior Brown, Shaun Miller, Nathan Bancroft.
