Varney Commences Comeback

Ex-Alex favourite Luke Varney has returned from an ankle injury by hitting a hat-trick for the Charlton Athletic reserves.

The 25 year old striker, who scored 25 for the Alex last season, picked up an ankle injury just weeks after his £2.5million summer move to Charlton in the summer. Tonight he made his return to fitness in style - hitting a hat-trick for Charlton reserves against Southampton reserves, in a game that finished 8-4 to Charlton.

It took him just three minutes to get on the score sheet before adding a second on the stroke of half time, completing his hat-trick in the 52nd minute.

Luke will now be hoping to make his first team debut for the Addicks when they visit Colchester United on Saturday.
