League Clubs Leave Senior Cup

Crewe, along with other Cheshire league clubs, will no longer enter the Cheshire Senior Cup.

The competition is now only open to non-league Cheshire based clubs, with the likes of Stockport, Chester and Tranmere also missing out.

In the past, the Senior Cup was neglected by league clubs, including Crewe, who used it to give their reserves and youngsters a run out. The Cheshire FA felt this detracted from the competition.

The Cheshire FA are now looking into relaunching the Cheshire Premier Cup, better known as the Cheshire Bowl. The Premier Cup would involve Crewe Alexandra, Tranmere Rovers, Macclesfield Town, Chester City and Stockport County. However, any new competition would not be launched till next season at the earliest.

No great loss really. Cheshire Premier Cup could be interesting though if teams were comitted to putting at least 3 or 4 first teamers out every game.

Doesnt matter how they sell it, I bet us league fans will give it a miss!

very strange, as we used this for reserves to get fitness, one or two friendlies against Macc Town hardly going to get them fit, another area we need to address. we should play in a competitive reserve league.
