Watford Match Preview

Match Preview, Watford v Crewe Alexandra
Saturday 28th January 2006, 3pm Kick Off

Overview

Crewe travel to Watford in the only championship fixture of the day, the fixture moved forward because of both teams early exit from this year’s FA Cup.

The game at Vicarage Road this Saturday sees one of the league’s youngest manager’s in Adrian Boothroyd pit his wit against the country longest serving manager in Dario Gradi.

Whilst we have struggled in this league under the leadership of Dario Gradi, Watford have made a fantastic start to the season and currently find themselves lying in a play off place.

Crewe at Vicarage Road

Vicarage Road has not been a happy hunting ground for Crewe in the past, the only victory in recent years was 1-0 in March 2002 when Dean Ashton and Rob Hulse lead the line for Crewe, how we would love to have that duo leading the line this Saturday.

In that game Ashton hit a 73rd minute winner, other than that we have endured a torrid time when visiting Watford and last time there we lost 3-1 in January 2005 ironically one of the first games that we played after the sale of Dean Ashton to Norwich.

Last Match

Crewe 0-0 Watford

Don’t really remember much about the game against Watford at home. Other than it was a clean sheet and they are to be cherished
as we have not had many of these in recent times.

Player to Watch

Ashley Young has scored 9 league goals this season and is a product of the Watford youth system. The arrival of Adrian Boothroyd has seen the 20 year old spring in to life and has been a first team regular since the manager converted him from a winger to a striker.

Team News

Watford

Watford can call on Ashley Young as he returns after serving a 3 match suspension. Thy only doubt is Dominic Blizzard who has a viral infection otherwise Watford have a fully fit squad to choose from and means that Adrian Boothroyd has a selection headache ahead of our trip south.

Crewe

Crewe will make one change to the starting line up from the Plymouth game, Adi Mosses is ruled out so Steve Foster will partner Richard Walker at the back.

Team: Turnbull, Otsemobor, Moss, Foster, Walker, Roberts, B.Jones, Vaughan, Lunt, Taylor, S.Jones.
