Pope in line for Hull start

Tom Pope will come in to the Alex attack for the visit of Championship side Hull City in Wednesday's first round Carling Cup tie. With the club still searching to bring new faces to the club it will mean youngsters Pope and Miller will be given the chance to shine.

Pope who has recently returned from injury will lead the line in the wake of Nicky Maynard's awful injury on Saturday. The 6ft 3 striker is looking to break in to the first team following Varney's departure and Maynard's injury.

After Maynard's early departure from the team in the 2-1 victory against Brighton, forwards Shaun Miller and Byron Moore strugggled to get hold of the ball and Pope's extra height has seen him given a chance to impress.

Is Pope the answer? Crewe Vital wants your views.

It's far from ideal, but I think we should give the partnership a chance before writing it off.

far too inexperienced, pope has good height but is very raw and big ask for him to step up just yet. i'd like to see him prove his worth from the bench first. will give it a chance thou. we have to patience like we were with Varney.

According to the official text service "Spurs striker Lee Barnard wants to come to Crewe on loan. Stumbling block over length of deal, wages and bonus has delayed move & the moment. Discussions ongoing" And no, none of those typos are mine...
