Wait For Striker Goes On

The never ending 'strikergate' seems to go on and on as the forward line remains bare today. Crewe were in talks with Tottenham Hotspur's Lee Barnard over the weekend . News had been expected on the signing today, but the young striker is still to make his mind up over a season long loan.

With Maynard injured, Dario & Holland are also looking at a second striker. Names in the hat so far are John Hartson from West Brom and Liverpool's Craig Lindfield.

The Hartson rumour has emerged over the last couple of weeks, with Holland thought to have taken a keen eye to the former Celtic hit man. West Brom recently said Hartson can leave, although they want a fee of around 250,000 - despite him turning 32 this year.

The other name is Craig Lindfield, who, despite being talked about amongst Alex fans, had never been linked with a move till this weekend. Lindfield is a young striker who's helped guide Liverpool to two successive FA Youth Cup wins. He's recently been rewarded with a new 3 year contract at Anfield but it's likely Liverpool will be looking to loan him out for the next 18 months at least.

So, whilst we await news of whether Lee Barnard is signing or not (we've been waiting 2 months, another day won't hurt), we can only speculate who the mystery second man is. It does seem as though it's a two horse race with Hartson and Lindfield though, that's if there is to be a second striker coming in!
