Old boys round up….

Luke Rodgers and Gareth Evans scored for Port Vale in their 4-0 win at non league Newcastle Town. Rodgers netted with a 30 yard free kick and Gareth Evans who was released by Crewe in the summer scored Vale`s fourth with a low drive.

Also in Staffordshire Pavol Suhaj played the first half for Stafford Rangers, the towering Centre forward who is on a short term deal with the club failed to net for the Conference side.

Dean Ashton made his long awaited comeback for West Ham United in their opening friendly match at Dagenham as a 2nd half substitution. Ashton who has been out for almost a year nearly made a goal-scoring return but his powerful header came back off the crossbar.

Billy Jones made his debut for Preston on Friday in a 6-2 win at Bamber Bridge in terrible conditions, he played the first 45 minutes at right back. Jon Otsemobor is still awaiting his Norwich City debut as he was left out of a trip to Exeter City.
