Pond life for Varney

Luke Varney is preparing for his Charlton debut in their traditional pre-season curtain raiser at non league Welling United tonight. The Addicks paid £2,500,000 to secure his services at the end of May.

He has been preparing with his new team mates ahead of the new Championship season which starts on August 11th when Scunthorpe visit the Valley. The first team have been training at the Next Generation club in Dartford.

Luke told www.cafc.co.uk that it was a far cry from what he has been use to.'I've done similar things to this before, but not to this extent," 'We might go down the local pond in Crewe!

He then went on say 'It's been enjoyable and obviously it's a big step up from what I'm used to and it just goes to show the ambition of the club. Everything is in place here for us to do well."

Here at Crewe Vital we wish Luke all the best for the forthcoming season with Charlton and wish him every success at his new club.
