'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Stars look set to feature

Liverpool played their first game of their pre-season campaign at Wrexham`s Racecourse Ground today. Both teams fielded different starting XI`s for each half. Liverpool raced in to a 3 goal lead courtesy of Austrian under 21 international player Besian Idrizaj.

Rafa Benitez included several first team players in his first half team, Steve Finnan, Gabriel Paletta, Alvaro Arbeola, Jermaine Pennant and Mo Sissoko all took part in the afternoon work out in Wales. Wrexham pulled two goals back in the 2nd half thanks to new signing Eifion Williams in front of a crowd of 11,000.

Liverpool will now step up their pre-season training programme ahead of a meeting with Crewe. It is anticipated that a lot of the first team players who missed the trip to Wrexham will be available for selection for next week`s match at the Alexandra Stadium

Manager Benitez told the Official Liverpool website 'I think most of them will play,' he said. 'Some of them came back later than the others because of the international games but they're in training now and should be involved at Crewe.'
