Whalley And Matthews Macc Bound?

Former Alex players Gareth Whalley and Lee Matthews could be heading to Macclesfield Town.

Whalley, who's had two spells at the club, is currently training at the Reaseheath training complex with the Crewe Alex squad following his release from Swindon Town FC.

The 33 year old has been ruled out of signing for the Alex though; with two new midfielders this summer, Dario believes that Whalley simply wouldn't be needed.

New Macclesfield boss Ian Brightwell is now hoping to tempt Gareth to Moss Rose as he begins building his team following Paul Ince's departure to MK Dons. Also on Brightwell's hit list is striker Lee Matthews. Matthews spent last season at Gresty Road, mainly on the injury table, but was released this summer.

Matthews, who has played for nine clubs in his career, is currently training with Macclesfield in the hope of securing a contract.
