The club have been putting the finishing touches to a pre-season training camp in the exclusive Vale Do Lobo resort in the Algarve region of Portugal. After a disappointing campaign last season the club originally decided against travelling abroad.
They had planned to spend time in the Gloucester area but a fact finding mission by first team coach Steve Holland revealed that facilities that were to be used were not up to standard, the plug was pulled on the trip - although the friendly fixture at Forest Green will go ahead as planned.
So, at short notice the club has quickly arranged for a 22 man squad to fly out for 3 day intensive training camp ahead of the opening pre-season fixture against Liverpool. The squad will fly out on Tuesday 10th July and return on Friday 13th July - hopefully not unlucky for us!
The make up of the 22 names that will fly out is likely to be announced over the weekend, and it is expected that Eugen Bopp will make the trip despite still being some way short of full fitness. One player who will miss out is Irishman Michael O`Connor who has a hernia problem and is to undergo surgery.
A couple of the younger players in the squad maybe included in the squad, players such as Mark Carrington, Nick Farquharson, James Bailey and Byron Moore may travel to gain valuable experience with the first team.
Whilst over in Portugal the squad will have 3 training sessions per day, an early morning jog, a weight session in the afternoon and then small sized games will be held in the evening will be the focal points of the schedule in the Algarve.
Crewe Vital would like your views on the Portugal Training Camp, Is it money well spent? Will the trip be of value to the squad or is the just an expensive jolly up?
