Looking for goals from midfield

The club will be looking for the midfield to chip in with more goals next season, the departure of leading goal-scorer Luke Varney to Championship side Charlton Athletic has left the club with Nicky Maynard and Ryan Lowe as the two frontline strikers.

They of course, will be supported by youngsters Tom Pope and Shaun Miller but the Crewe management team is hoping that the midfielders can chip in and help the young looking forward line. Summer acquisitions Steve Schumacher and Eugen Bopp have in the past got goals from midfield and it is hoped they can add goals from midfield.

Last season the midfield scored a disappointing total of 17 goals in the League came from midfield and eight of them came from Ryan Lowe who is likely to be used this season as a striker, After Lowe the next highest scoring midfielder was David Vaughan (pictured above) (4) then Gary Roberts (3) and Ben Rix (2).

With the club so far unable to get a replacement for Varney it will be imperative that the midfield does score it's fair share of goals next season.
