No New Striker

No New Striker

Dario & Steve Holland were hoping to bring in a short term replacement for Luke Varney on a season long loan. Steve Holland had identified a target, supposedly Lee Barnard of Spurs, but after a couple of weeks of waiting Dario has confirmed the deal is dead.

The striker's club sees him in their first team picture this summer and are unwilling to let him go. Though Dario says that he'd still be interested should the club change their mind in a few weeks.

He told CreweAlex.net' 'The deal for the Premiership striker is dead. We asked about his availability but his club want him to stay with them, as he is a part of their pre-season plans. If that situation should change earlier on in the season then we would be in with a chance.'

Dario admits that the club don't have anyone else in mind to move for and the summer signings could well be complete, at least until they find a player capable to play at this level.

'There is no-one new on the horizon and if I'm honest I don't think we will find a striker. If someone were to come along, it would have be someone we don't know about and that could be from abroad.'

Crewe move up with victory

Crewe Alexandra are now unbeaten in four games after a welcome 2-0 win over Rochdale.

Striker Marcus Haber put them in front on the half-hour when a corner wasn't properly cleared and Brad Inman doubled their lead just prior to half-time.

Ian Henderson earlier headed wide for the visitors but Haber made no mistake when turning in at the other end after George Cooper's corner was missed.

However, it needed goalkeeper Ben Garratt to respond as Peter Vincenti sought an equalise
