Pope To Get Crewe Chance

Crewe Alex "boss" (official websites words, not mine) Dario Gradi is willing to take a risk on youngster Tom Pope as an alternative to Luke Varney, who has joined Charlton in a 2million deal.

Pope, who made his debut this season against Gillingham will be fighting against Ryan Lowe and Shaun Miller for the chance to form a strike partnership with Crewe star Nicky Maynard. Dario, whilst Steve Holland is at this "holiday retreat" told Crewealex.net: 'Tom is making really good progress and was there or thereabouts towards the end of the season.

"He is good in the air, one of the best we have at the club, and is mobile for a big lad. Hopefully, he will turn out to be a success and he will get a chance to show what he can do in pre-season.'
