Boro Warn Of Turnbull Recall

Middlesbrough have phone Crewe boss Dario Gradi to warn him that they may recall goalkeeper from his loan spell. Australian 'keeper Mark Schwarzer recently handed in a transfer request and has been subject of interest from Portsmouth. Should Schwarzer move on during this transfer window, it is likely that Turnbull would be recalled to challenge Brad Jones to be Middlesbrough's Number 1. Turnbull, who recently extended his loan until the end of the season, has been impressive generally over the course of his loan and despite a poor performance against QPR, the 6'3 keeper remains to be seen in a good light by the majority of Crewe fans.

In the event of Turnbull being recalled, Dario Gradi has made enquiries about other goalkeepers and has said he has other options available. One possible option is believed to be ex-trialist Saul Deeney who impressed for Burton Albion in their recent stalemate against Man Utd. Deeney has been given an ultimatum by Albion manager Nigel Clough to sign for another month or leave. However, Gradi has said, 'There is one very good goalkeeper who could be a possibility but that seems unlikely at the moment. The club involved have a few goalkeeping problems of their own. It would be difficult to get him but not entirely impossible.' On a less positive note, Gradi revealed that Ben Williams is likely to be out for the rest of the season as he battles with meningitis.
