Gradi hopes to be 'making moves'

Dario Gradi is still hoping to sign players in the transfer window despite admitting the Gareth McAuley deal only has a '50-50' chance of going through.

The player is still due at the club for talks next week, but Gradi has warned McAuley and his agent, 'We wont be messed around'.

It is believed McAuley may be holding out for a better deal while other clubs remain interested. Gradi also said, 'We hoped he would come and speak to us this week, but if he hasn't come by Monday or Tuesday then we will put a stop to it because we want to be making some moves.'

We asked in our poll if McAuley was the answer to our defensive problems and 75% of those who voted believe he is.

Those moves may well involve the polish defenders, Antoni Lukasiewicz and Marcin Kus, who have been on trial with the Railwaymen. A bid for the pair is expected next week.

Defenders certainly appear to be the priority for Gradi after conceding seven goals in two games. There will be no need to replace midfielder Eddie Johnson after it was revealed he will be staying on loan from Manchester United after turning down the chance to go to Hull.
