Match Report - Crewe Alexandra vs Exeter City
Second-half injury time goals from Exeter skipper Jordan Moore-Taylor and Jayden Stockley gave the Grecians an away win that took them back into the play-off places against Crewe Alexandra at the Alexandra Stadium last night, despite Shaun Miller giving the hosts the lead in the 88th minute.
Manager David Artell made 3 changes from Saturday`s home win against Colchester United with Michael Raynes coming into a reshuffled defence for the ill Jamie Sterry (Perry Ng moving out to right-back), Tom Lowery came into midfield to play from the left instead for Charlie Kirk and Harry McKirdy came in for Jordan Bowery up front. Kirk and Bowery dropped down to the bench where they were joined by Dave Richards, Brad Walker, Ollie Finney, Lewis Reilly and Daniel Barlaser.
The opening chance of the game came in the 2nd minute as Crewe captain Paul Green forced Exeter keeper Christy Pym into a decent save from McKirdy`s pull-back before the Grecian`s first effort came a couple of minutes later as Stockley`s shot from the edge of the area went wide. The 10th minute saw the next chance which came from the hosts as Harry Pickering`s ball out wide was volleyed by Zoumana Bakayago with the left-back`s effort going wide from a tight angle. After a few chances that were saved easily by the respective keepers, the half-time whistle came as Crewe were on top, but the score was still goal-less.
Into the second-half with Exeter coming back into the game, with Stockley getting a small deflection on a Kyle Edwards cross from the right before Kiram Boateng forced Ben Garratt into a great diving save from a 25-yard curler. Crewe substitute Kirk was the next one to force a keeper into a save with Pym getting down at his near post before Crewe took the lead with 2 minutes on the clock.
Kirk found Pickering whose calm cross found Miller at the near post with a poacher`s finish from a few yards out before City levelled in the first minute of stoppage time as Moore-Taylor got on the end of a penalty area scramble to curl past Garratt before Lee Holmes` left-footed right-wing cross was headed in by Stockley at the far post in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
Crewe`s next game is a trip to Lincoln City on Saturday.
