Alex Go Out Of FA Youth Cup At Colchester
Goals in either half from Ollie Sims and Noah Chilvers gave Colchester United the win against Crewe Alexandra in the FA Youth Cup at the Weston Homes Community Stadium last night.
Crewe manager Lee Bell named Sam Booth in goal with 3 central defenders of Luke Offord, Billy Sass-Davies and Oliver Harrison. Travis Johnson and Rio Adebisi played as wing-backs with Regan Griffiths and Joe Lynch in midfield whilst Under-16s striker George Nunn, Luke Walsh and Alex Hurst completed the starting 11. On the bench were Luke Barlow, Aaron Lomas, Connor Heath, Malachi Linton and Challis Johnson.
The opening chance of the game came in the 6th minute with Harrison testing Harry Seaden in the United goal before Rob Howard headed wide under pressure on 9 minutes for the hosts. Another chance came mid-way through the half for Colchester as Callum Jones fired just past the post whilst Nunn headed over from just outside the 6-yard box. The opening goal came 8 minutes before the break with Sims curling it in from outside the area past Booth`s despairing dive.
Into the second period where the visitors started well as Griffiths forced Seaden into a save from just inside the area before Colchester`s Dean Ager tested Booth with an effort which the Alex keeper dealt with. The final 20 minutes saw Crewe substitute Challis Johnson, on for namesake Travis, denied by the linesman`s flag after he was offside following an effort off the post. The second goal came 5 minutes from time as a counter-attack saw midfielder Chilvers slide the ball past Booth from inside the area.
Colchester will host MK Dons in the 4th Round next month.
