Match Report - Crewe Alexandra vs Lincoln City

A second-half collapse which saw Harry Anderson score twice as well as a Michael Raynes own goal and a late Elliott Whitehouse strike gave Lincoln City an impressive away victory despite Raynes` 8th minute opener at the Alexandra Stadium yesterday.

Crewe manager David Artell made 7 changes from Tuesday night`s defeat at Vale Park in the EFL Trophy, with the team reverting to the team that beat Rotherham in the FA Cup last Saturday. Dave Richards started in goal, across the back 4 were Perry Ng, Brad Walker, Michael Raynes and Harry Pickering. Callum Ainley, Tom Lowery, Conor Grant and George Cooper made up the midfield whilst captain Chris Dagnall joined Jordan Bowery up top.

The opening chance of the game came in the 2nd minute with Cooper shooting straight at Imps keeper Josh Vickers before Crewe took the lead in the 8th minute as Cooper`s in-swinging corner was headed home inside the 6-yard box. They could have extended the lead 5 minutes later as Dagnall shot at Vickers before Lincoln`s first chance came on 20 minutes with Neal Eardley`s corner headed back across goal with Michael Bostwick heading wide under pressure.

The next chance fell to City on the half-hour as Ollie Palmer headed an Eardley free-kick straight at Richards before Walker gave the ball to Cooper whose goal-bound shot was blocked by a defender as Crewe started the half well before the Imps got themselves back into the game.

Into the second half, where the visitors equalised early into the half with Anderson slotting the ball under Richards following a spell of pressure. The away side were now dominating the play with Whitehouse heading over from a corner before he almost got on the end of a Palmer cross.

The second Lincoln goal came just after Crewe had brought on Chris Porter for Ainley with Anderson forcing the ball over the line following Sean Raggett`s header being cleared off the line before they extended their lead as Sean Long`s right-wing cross was turned into his own net by Raynes. The final goal came in stoppage-time with Alex Woodyard sliding Whitehouse in behind the defence with the midfielder slotting past Richards.

Crewe travel to the New Lawn for our first ever meeting with Forest Green Rovers next Saturday in our next league game.
