Today we travel to Colchester United`s Community Stadium. So far this season, they have beaten Forest Green Rovers, Crawley Town, Yeovil Town, Mansfield Town and Newport County in the league and a penalties win over Reading U21s in the EFL Trophy, they`ve drawn with Stevenage, Chesterfield, Grimsby Town and Coventry City last weekend whilst they have 6 league defeats which were against Accrington Stanley, Luton Town, Cambridge United, Cheltenham Town, Wycombe Wanderers and Carlisle United and have cup defeats to Aston Villa in the EFL Cup and Gillingham in the Trophy.

During the summer, they have made 11 permanent signings with goalkeepers Rene Gilmartin and Dominic Kurasik arriving from Watford and Brentford respectively with defenders Ryan Jackson, Cole Kpekawa, Dan Jefferies, Callum Sturgess and Will Wright. The midfield was strengthened with youngsters Tarryn Allarakhia and Sam Warde coming in and strikers Mikael Mandron and Sanmi Odelusi both signing from Wigan Athletic.

They have also made 5 loan signings with defender Ryan Inniss joining from Crystal Palace, midfielder Brandon Comley from Queens Park Rangers and forwards Kyel Reid, Brandon Hanlan and Nicke Kabamba joining from Coventry City, Charlton Athletic and Portsmouth respectively. All have joined on loan until January except for Inniss, who is on a season-long loan.

Crewe Alexandra Team News:

Stand-in captain Michael Raynes will miss today`s game after being sent-off against Accrington last Saturday with Brad Walker or Sam Stubbs likely to replace him in the starting 11. He is the only player that hasn`t been out for the last few weeks to miss out. George Ray, James Jones, Ryan Wintle and Ross Woodcock all miss out due to longer-term injuries whilst Chris Dagnall could also return to the team after being denied the chance to come off the bench last week due to being unable to take off his wedding ring, which he`s since had cut off.

Colchester United Team News:

The hosts will be missing Tom Lapslie, who like Raynes, was sent off for 2 bookings last weekend whilst Kurtis Guthrie, who opened the scoring in last season`s corresponding fixture, is unlikely to feature following an ankle injury.

Last Time Out:

Crewe Alexandra 2-0 Colchester United, 18th March 2017

Last season`s home fixture saw the hosts win after 2 goals from Chris Dagnall. He got his first on 26 minutes heading home a George Cooper inswinging free-kick before he added a second 6 minutes from time as he turned in Callum Cooke`s cross from close range.

Crewe: Garratt; Turton, Ray ©, Nugent (Ng 59), Bakayago; Jones, Bingham, Cooke; Dagnall, Bowery, Cooper (Wintle 77)

Head-to-Head:

Looking back through the archives, the 2 clubs have met 54 times with Colchester leading the head-to-head having 27 wins to 19 with 8 draws. The biggest win for Crewe was the 7-1 victory in April 1993 at the Alexandra Stadium whilst Colchester`s biggest win came in February 1964 at Layer Road which finished 4-0 to the hosts.

Played for both:

As well as Chris Porter who is set to line up against his former club for the Railwaymen, goalkeepers Ademola Bankole (who was Colchester`s goalkeeping coach for 9 years until the summer) and Ben Williams with defenders Sagi Burton, Dean Howell, Efe Sodje, Paul Tierney and David Wright, midfielder Andy Bond and forwards Jamie Moralee and Dean Morgan have represented both clubs.
