Match Report - Crewe Alexandra vs Accrington Stanley
2 early goals from Billy Kee and Jordan Clark gave Accrington Stanley the victory against Crewe Alexandra, who had stand-in captain Michael Raynes sent off for 2 yellow cards, at the Alexandra Stadium yesterday afternoon.
Crewe manager David Artell named an unchanged starting 11 following Tuesday`s victory over Notts County with the only change being that Chris Dagnall was back on the bench for youngster Josh Lundstram after a niggle kept him out of Tuesday`s game.
The opening chance of the game came in the 2nd minute with Raynes giving away a penalty, which he was booked for, after fouling Kayden Jackson with Kee sending Dave Richards the wrong way. Crewe had their opportunities with Chris Porter drawing a save out of Aaron Chapman before Accrington doubled the lead 10 minutes with Richards making a terrific save from Jackson`s drive with Clark heading the rebound home after statue-esque defending from the Alex defence.
After a minute`s applause following the passing of 15-year-old Stanley youth player Jordan Moseley which happened earlier in the week, Jordan Bowery was played in behind the defence but he rolled the ball wide of the goal before Tom Lowery fired over from just outside the area. The next chance came 10 minutes before the game with full-back Perry Ng having a shot deflected for a corner before another decent chance happened minutes before half-time as Raynes headed over from a Conor Grant free-kick.
Into the second half, which was at a much slower pace than the opening period, with Callum Ainley finding George Cooper whose effort was saved comfortably by Chapman mid-way through the half. Jordan Bowery flashed the ball across the goal without Porter getting a touch on it before Raynes was shown a second yellow 8 minutes before time for a foul on substitute Mallik Wilks.
Crewe travel to Colchester United next Saturday in our next league game.
