Match Preview: Crewe Alexandra vs Accrington Stanley

This afternoon we host Accrington Stanley at the Alexandra Stadium. They have beaten Colchester United, Mansfield Town, Morecambe, Carlisle United, Chesterfield, Port Vale, Forest Green Rovers and Coventry City all in the league with victories over Preston North End (EFL Cup) and Middlesbrough U21 (EFL Trophy) in the cup competitions. They have only drawn twice this season against Notts County and Cheltenham Town whilst they have been defeated by Yeovil Town, Grimsby Town, Luton Town and on Tuesday night against Stevenage.

During the summer, they have made 6 permanent signings with Danish goalkeeper Simon Jorgensen arriving from Danish football, defender Ben Richards-Everton joining from Dunfermline Athletic as well as forwards Mekhi Leacock-McLeod, Erico Sousa and Kayden Jackson. The final player is former Alex midfielder Liam Nolan who arrived from Southport.

They have also made 8 loan signings with Tom Dallison, Tyler Hornby-Forbes, Mallik Wilks, Jordan Thorniley, Callum Johnson and Farrend Rawson all joining from higher division clubs until January whilst Jonathan Edwards and Max Stryjek, who have joined on season-long loans from Hull City and Sunderland respectively.

Crewe Alexandra Team News:

There are no new injury or suspension worries for David Artell ahead of the long trip to the South West with James Jones is back in training and at least a couple of weeks away whilst George Ray is still a couple of months away from returning. Captain Chris Dagnall is set to be involved after sitting out of Tuesday night`s victory against league leaders Notts County.

Accrington Stanley Team News:

On-loan goalkeeper Max Stryjek could return for the visitors after a hamstring injury wasn`t as bad as originally feared whilst defenders Tom Dallison and Callum Johnson could make starts if manager John Coleman makes changes to the backline following conceding 3 in midweek.

Last Time Out:

Accrington 3-2 Crewe Alexandra, 8th April 2017

Last season`s fixture at the Wham Stadium saw Crewe Alexandra take a 2-0 half-time lead before allowing Stanley to gain al 3 points by gifting them easy goals. Callum Cooke gave the Railwaymen the lead on the quarter-hour mark with a 25-yard strike before Dagnall made it 2-0 4 minutes before the break following a neat through-ball from George Cooper.

Mark Hughes got one back on the hour-mark scoring from close range before a Shay McCartan free-kick from just outside the penalty area found Ben Garratt`s top corner minutes later. The winner came in the 79th minute as Hughes bundled the ball home from close range after Crewe didn`t clear a Sean McConville corner.

Crewe: Garratt; Turton, Ray ©, Nugent, Bakayago; Jones (Saunders 88), Bingham, Cooke; Dagnall, Bowery (Wintle 80), Cooper

Played for both:
As well as Liam Nolan, goalkeepers Andy Dawber, Ross Etheridge and Paul Rachubka, defenders Adam Dugdale, Darran Kempson, Mark Roberts and Gus Wilson, midfielders Tony Grant, Lee Molyneux, Alan Navarro and Gary Roberts as well as strikers Wes Fletcher and Michael Symes have represented both clubs.
