Match Preview: Crewe Alexandra vs Chesterfield

Tomorrow we host Chesterfield at the Alexandra Stadium. So far this season, they have won one game against Port Vale in the middle of last month, drew last time out against Coventry City and had 3 defeats with a 3-1 home defeat to Grimsby on the opening day, and 2-0 and 4-1 away defeats against Notts County and Newport County respectively. They have also lost games against Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford City in the EFL Cup and EFL Trophy respectively.

During the summer, they have made 12 permanent signings with goalkeeper Joe Anyon signing from Scunthorpe United, defenders Bradley Barry, Jerome Binnom-Williams, Jordan Sinnott, Scott Wiseman, Marshall Willock and Matthew Briggs all arriving in a new-look defence. Central midfielders Jak McCourt and Robbie Weir have joined from Northampton Town and Leyton Orient whilst strikers Delial Brewster (Everton), Chris O`Grady (Brighton and Hove Albion) and Gozie Ugwu (Woking) complete the permanent signings. They have also made 5 loan signings with midfielders Louis Reed and Jordan Flores, left-back Andy Kellett and forward Diego de Girolamo have all joined on season-long loans whilst centre back Zak Jules has joined until January.

Crewe Alexandra Team News:

Midfielder Conor Grant will miss out after being knocked unconscious in last Saturday`s defeat against Grimsby. James Jones is back in training but this game comes too early for him whilst George Ray is still a couple of months away from returning.

Chesterfield Team News:

Midfielder Weir misses out through suspension following his dismissal last weekend whilst Bradley Berry is a doubt following a badly bruised leg sustained in the Newport game. Those that are missing the game through injury are Connor Dimaio, Jerome Binnom-Williams and Joe Rowley.

Last Time Out:

Crewe Alexandra 0-2 Chesterfield, 8th November 2016

Last season`s EFL Trophy group-stage was the competition for the last meeting between the sides. Jay O`Shea gave the visitors the lead mid-way through the first half before a late Connor Dimaio penalty gave the Spirites the 3 points.
