There have been three competitive fixtures on August 21st in the 25-year period, taking place in 2001, 2004, 2010 and 2012.
Starting with the game in 2001 where we travelled to York City`s Bootham Crescant in the League Cup. Colin Little gave the Railwaymen the lead after 5 minutes before Lee Bullock equalised just after the half-hour mark. Chris Brass gave the Minstermen the lead in the 108th minute before substitute Marc Richards drew Crewe level with 8 minutes of extra-time remaining whilst Crewe won the penalty shoot-out 6-5.

Onto 2004 where Crewe hosted West Ham United at the Alexandra
Stadium. 2 goals from Teddy Sheringham and a goal from Rufus Brevett gave West Ham a 3-goal lead inside the opening half-hour before Dean Ashton scored in the 31st minute and later in the 82nd minute to reduce the deficit but West Ham held on for the win.

In 2010, Crewe Alexandra hosted Barnet at the Alexandra Stadium. Shaun Miller gave Crewe a 4th minute lead before Clayton Donaldson extended that lead 10 minutes before the break. Into the second half where Joel Grant gave Crewe a 3-0 lead a couple of minutes after the break before 2 goals in 3 minutes from David Artell and Donaldson made it 5-0 before late goals from Miller and substitute AJ Leitch-Smith gave Crewe a 7-0 win.

2 years later, Crewe travelled to play Scunthorpe United at
Glanford Park. AJ Leitch-Smith gave the Railwaymen the lead inside the opening minute before Mike Grella equalised after 15 minutes. Luke Murphy scored the winner for the away side 17 minutes from time.
