Reaseheath Review 24/04/17
Our regular weekly round-up of all things non-first team looks at the final U23 Professional Development League 2 game at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane from this afternoon as well as the non-league games for our young players that are gaining experience of senior football.
U23 - Sheffield United 1-2 Watford
Crewe finish off the U23 Professional Development League 2 with a win having come from behind at Bramall Lane thanks to goals from Charlie Kirk and Callum Saunders, the former from the penalty spot.
Crewe made 2 changes from last Wednesday's home defeat to Watford with Stoke City U18 defender Harvey Read playing at centre back on trial, along with Marcus Poscha and Billy Sass-Davies and Josh Lundstram came in for Alex Kiwomya as we moved to a 3-5-2 system with Ross Woodcock and Harry Pickering as wing-backs.
United took the lead midway through the first half with Oliver Greaves beating Andy Dawber after the keeper had saved an effort from Graham Kelly before the Railwaymen equalised just after the half hour mark through Charlie Kirk's penalty after Daniel Udoh had been brought down by Ferguson.
The winner came 10 minutes from time as Callum Saunders headed home from close range, giving Alex Morris' side a ninth win in the final 12 games.
