Reaseheath Review 20/03/17

In our regular weekly round-up column, we look at the U18's trip to Colchester, both U23's games at home to Charlton from last Wednesday and tonight's trip to Ipswich as well as looking at how our loanees have done for their loan clubs.

U18 - Colchester United 2-3 Crewe Alexandra (Sat 18th Mar) Thanks to Colpic from the Non-League Matters forum for the information to write this match report
Two own goals from Colchester trialist right-back Isaac Kelly helped Crewe's U18 team to a 3-2 win at Florence Park as Colchester were missing a number of regulars at this level due to their involvement in Colchester's U23 Premier League Cup win at Sunderland the night before.

The visitors took the lead on 22 minutes when Alex Hurst's low hard cross was deflected in by Kelly before an equaliser on 38 minutes by Reuben Mudd after good work from Oliver Sims.

Crewe retook the lead on 48 minutes with a goal similar to the opener with a low cross, again, turned in by the unfortunate Kelly and we extended the lead just past the hour mark as a through ball was volleyed in by Hurst. Colchester added their second 12 minutes from time as captain Dean Ager's right-wing cross was turned in by Mudd.

Team: Hilton; Johnson, Wilkinson, Sass-Davies, Offord; Hurst, Lundstrum (c), Harrison, Lynch; Thompson, Griffiths

Our next game at U18 level is in 2 weeks time (April 1st) vs Coventry at Reaseheath with a 11.30am kick-off.

U23 - Crewe Alexandra 1-1 Charlton (Wed 15th Mar)
Crewe came from a goal down to equalise against Charlton at Reaseheath last week. The opening goal of the game came on 11 minutes as George Lapslie scored from the penalty spot before the visitors were reduced to 10 men after a dreadful challenge on Owen Dale. Crewe's goal came 11 minutes into the second half as Daniel Udoh bagged for the Railwaymen.

U23 - Ipswich Town 1-1 Crewe Alexandra (Mon 20th Mar)
A second half goal from Daniel Udoh gave Crewe a share of the points at Portman Road this evening after Andy Dawber had saved a first half penalty from Brett Pitman, with the experienced striker heading home from the resulting corner.

Team: Dawber; Wilkinson, Ng (c), Poscha, Pickering; Dale, Wintle, Finney, Ainley; Saunders, Udoh

Our next game at U23 level is next Monday (March 27th) vs Crystal Palace at the Alexandra Stadium with a 1pm kick-off.

Loan Report
Harry Davis scored in the second minute of St. Mirren's 3-2 home victory against Dundee United before coming off before half time with a kneecap injury that will keep him out for the rest of the season. He's returned to Crewe for treatment and will no longer be included in the loan report.

Daniel Udoh came on for the final 10 minutes in Solihull Moors 4-1 win at North Ferriby Town. They travel to The New Lawn to face Forest Green Rovers tomorrow evening before they play Barrow at home on Saturday.

Lewis Reilly scored the winner for Radcliffe Borough in their 2-1 win against Clitheroe in the Lancashire Challenge Cup semi-final on Wednesday before their game against Ossett Town on Saturday was postponed. Radcliffe host Lancaster City on Saturday (whose team includes former Alex striker Jordan Connerton) and have the Cup final to look forward to at Bolton Wanderer's Macron Stadium on April 4th.

More games that were postponed were Alsager's trip to Daisy Hill (so no action for Ross Woodcock) and Whitchurch's trip to Ashton Town (where Luke Walley is our representative). Alsager travel to Holker Old Boys on Saturday whilst Whitchurch host Silsden on the same day.
