Crewe Make Wilson Offer
Crewe have equalled Plymouth's offer for Cheltenham defender Brian Wilson as they look to secure defensive reinforcements. Cheltenham recently set an asking price of £100,000 for the defender, and Plymouth signalled their interest in the ex-Stoke man by making an offer believed to match that asking price. Crewe have speedily intervened, and matched Plymouth's offer leaving Wilson with a decision to make. Wilson is currently transfer-listed at Cheltenham, and has just 6 months left to run on his contract at which time he can leave for nothing.
Given that Plymouth are 13th in the Championship and pay better wages than Crewe, it would appear that Crewe have no chance of competing with Argyle for the 23-year old. However, Crewe, now placed 17th in League One and just 2 points off the relegation zone, have a geographical advantage, as Wilson's main motive for leaving Cheltenham is to be closer to his family in Manchester. Although Crewe will hope that will be enough to persuade Wilson to join, Plymouth remain firm favourites to land Wilson.
