Crewe Target Transfer-Listed

Crewe transfer target Brian Wilson appears certain to leave Cheltenham this January after he was placed on the transfer list. The ex-Stoke man is out-of-contract at the end of the season and significantly, no compensation would be payable as Wilson turns 24 in May. Wilson's main attributes are his pace and ability on the ball.

Cheltenham have already received enquiries about the full-back, and along with Crewe, Nottingham Forest and Plymouth are also reported to be monitoring Wilson. However, Wilson's primary motive for leaving Cheltenham is believed to be to move closer to his Manchester-based family, offering Crewe some sort of selling point to contrast with Forest's tradition, Plymouth's Championship status and the bigger wages both clubs would be able to offer.

Wilson moved to Cheltenham from Stoke for £50,000 as a left-winger, and despite impressing in League 2, Wilson found the going tougher in League One. Right-footed Wilson has since moved to right-back, though he is capable of covering on the left, and is considered to be one of Cheltenham's top performers so far this season.

In terms of a transfer fee, Cheltenham are believed to have set an optimistic £100,000 asking price, though with Wilson able to leave for nothing in the summer, a fee of £50,000 may be enough to tempt the Robins into doing business.
