Varney Set For Lilywhites

Luke Varney is reportedly set to complete a £750k move to Preston in a deal to be completed on January 1st. Varney leads the way both in terms of goals and assists for Crewe this season, with 13 and 6 respectively. 11 goals in his last 13 appearances, including a goal against Man Utd, have caught the eye of numerous scouts, with Derby boss Billy Davies a known admirer, whilst Portsmouth, Aston Villa, Bolton and Southampton have also been linked.

With a fee of £750k already seen by many Crewe fans as derisory, Quorn will be due 20% of any fee, leaving Crewe with just over £560,000. However, with a projected loss of £1.6m this year, and Billy Jones and Jon Otsemobor set to leave for vastly reduced sums, the offer may prove too tempting for the board.

However, Vital Crewe stresses that these reports are from uncited sources, and may prove to be false.

Poor kid, hopefully once he's had a look around there he'll change his mind..

That's great business for Preston if true! But not for you as you need his goals!
