Varney in Team of the Week

Varney in Team of the Week

Crewe forward Luke Varney has been named in the League One Team of the Week. Varney scored twice in Crewe's 4-0 victory at Brentford last weekend. Varney's tally of 11 goals leaves him joint top of Crewe's scoring charts, with Nicky Maynard also scoring 11. Both strikers have 9 in the league and 2 in the cup.

However, Varney's 6 assists - the third most in League One - show he has been more than just a goalscorer this season. Add to that the fact that he has 9 goals in 8 games, and the January transfer window could be a worrying time for Crewe fans.

League One Team of the Week:
GK Mark Bunn (Northampton)
RB Nathan Jones (Yeovil)
CB Peter Murphy (Carlisle)
CB Jamie McCombe (Bristol City)
LB Carl Dickinson (Blackpool)
RM Cleveland Taylor (Scunthorpe)
CM Richard Wellens (Oldham)
CM Keith Southern (Blackpool)
LM Martin Woods (Rotherham)
CF Chris Porter (Oldham)
CF Luke Varney (Crewe)
