Crewe bid for upset

Crewe Alexandra turn their attention back to the Capital One Cup this evening when entertaining Championship visitors Bolton Wanderers in the second round.

"I hope we have got the characters in the team to keep bouncing back" - Steve Davis
On loan midfielder Jamie Ness is rated doubtful for the hosts with a hamstring injury and that could witness a full debut for summer arrival Chris Atkinson following his recovery from a similar problem. Brad Inman is also in contention for a recall.

Otherwise, midfielder Ryan Colclough
[hip] and Harry Davis [knee] are currently sidelined along with fellow defender Thierry Audel [shoulder].

The Railwaymen will be trying to overturn their recent form that has witnessed them losing their opening four league games of the season. They did, however, win at Barnsley in the last round.

"I hope we have got the characters in the team to keep bouncing back from these set-backs, and the Bolton game is another chance for us to do that," manager Steve Davis told the Stoke Sentinel. "The pressure is off a little bit and hopefully we can rise to the occasion.

"We have players who might need opportunities, and we might have a chance to look at those against Bolton," he added. "It will be a tough game, but like any cup game you have got to have a go, and that's what we will be trying to do."

Bolton must give late tests to goalkeeper Adam Bogdan [eye] and defender Kevin McNaughton [hamstring], while Mark Davies [fractured toe] is unlikely to feature and Marc Tierney and Sanmi Odelusi are both ruled out.
