Maynard Suffers Major Blow

Crewe striker Nicky Maynard is likely to face an extended period on the sidelines through injury. The youngster will undergo a scan on his hamstring, but results are expected to show a tear which may keep him out for well over a month.

The pacey forward scored his 11th goal of the season on Saturday as he helped his side to a 2-1 local derby win over Port Vale. However, he pulled up with just over 20 minutes to go and was replaced by Pavol Suhaj. Luke Rodgers fired home a late penalty and appears the likely candidate to replace Maynard, though improvements will be required from his all-round performance on Saturday.
